The Dronten project began with the design of a lighting masterplan for the entire city centre, which was currently being redeveloped. This masterplan was used to develop an overall concept combining all lighting aspects, which are usually studied separately, such as functional lighting, decorative lighting, festive lighting, architectural lighting, wayfinding lighting and commercial lighting.
During the development of the project, we designed unique wall-mounted and pole-mounted street furniture elements, bringing together functional lighting, architectural lighting, illuminated commercial signs and ambient lighting. Thanks to this integration, we have replaced the usual clusters of separate equipment with elegant objects that support all the necessary visual functions.
The main street and square are lit by warm white public lighting projectors on which various lightly coloured filters (red, orange and amber tones) are mounted, creating a discreet sense of warmth and festivity in these central, more commercial areas. The prominent architectural elements of the urban centre are highlighted by lines of light that gently graze the tops of certain façades, whose silhouettes thus become nocturnal urban landmarks guiding people through their route. The covered galleries are lit by indirect lighting to improve the feeling of luminosity in these enclosed spaces.
