The chance to design and build my own home is unique and allowed me to explore the total integration of all aspects, from the spatial organisation layout to the details of furniture, from the staircase to the finishes which perfectly integrate and reveal the lighting.
Lighting is designed to transcend and sublimate the experience of living in the house, considering the uses and characteristics of each space, the materials, the relationship with the outside, biological cycles and so on. Light then transforms the house into a place of total experience, combining simplicity and sophistication, environment and interiority.
More specifically, a subtle interplay between very focussed lights and more diffused luminous lines distributes lights and shadows through space and prioritises spatial perceptions. Linear LEDs are sometimes used as graphic elements, either straight or curved, or integrated into coves specially designed for the desired effect, tested on site and sized to perfectly reveal the materials, shapes and spaces.
Decorative luminaires focus on specific spaces and are selected for their glass qualities, which offers a play of sparkle and reflection, wich enriches the light with a soft textured effect.
The exposed wooden ceiling in the lounge is transformed into a work of art thanks to old light bulbs revealing its pattern. The gentle glow of incandescence dimmed to a few percent and animated in a slow dynamic cycle echoes the flame of the stove. This subdued light maintains the view outwards at night, which is magnified by the heightened perception of blues in response to the golden interior lighting. This unique experience inaugurates the interest of a lighting that can be stated as vintage, and reconciles us with the authenticity of light, after the whitening of LEDs that followed the sodiumisation of cities...
On the top floor, a completely different experience, akin to a skyspakce, takes place, where the artificial colours of the LEDs integrated into coves are measured against the sky through the many skylights. This play of colours and contrasts provokes our visual perception through associations, sometimes harmonious and at other times unexpected, thanks to the phenomenon of rebalancing the white, operated in spite of ourselves by our brains.
This variety of experiences and environments, which enrich the moments of living in this multi-functional home, are easily triggered thanks to a flexible and adaptive management system. Light scenes can be created and modified according to the activities, needs and wishes of users, to best match the lighting environment of its different spaces, which change function and mood as the day progresses.
