Créateur de votre lumière
majestueuse

A project to enhance the Cinquantenaire, the iconic historic monument built in 1880 to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the creation of Belgium.

The existing uniform lighting of the arcades was replaced by low-wattage luminaires, positioned as judiciously as possible to create a lighting effect that plays on contrasts, chiaroscuro and tones.

The principles of the lighting scheme have been defined in order to highlight the various stylistic typologies characteristic of the architecture, accentuate the perception of hollows and volumes and establish the monument's visibility in urban perspectives of Brussels. We defined a range of lighting typologies to be applied to the various monuments on this large-scale site, in order to create a coherent lighting scheme of the different buildings, based on a single lighting language.

Different scenarios were defined to reduce light pollution and energy consumption in the middle of the night, while maintaining the elements that are essential to the monument's silhouette.
